YouTube & Twitch

Seven years making video game guides and gameplay. It paid a monthly income, and it stopped when the commute made it impossible.

Content creator 2019 — 2026 Remote
Context

I started posting gameplay and ended up running a guides channel. The content was video games, mostly raids and high-level endgame material, and the audience arrived because it was hard to find that done well. Speedrunners at the time kept their strategies private. I published mine.

What I did

Concise guides, live commentary during runs, longer gameplay videos. Formats, editing and thumbnails tested continuously against what they did to the numbers.

What it shows

Building an audience on work rather than on presence, and knowing when to stop.

What the channel actually was

Video games, mostly raids and high-level endgame content. I was known in speedrunning and farming circles before I posted anything, which is what made the guides credible. Coverage widened to other games later.

The guides were deliberately short. The established creators padded theirs out; mine assumed the reader had never attempted the encounter and explained the mechanics without the filler.

It was a business, not a hobby

Between €1 800 and €2 250 a month, varying with events in the game. On Twitch, 60 to 100 concurrent viewers, more during group runs.

Every decision went through the same test. Format, length, educational or straight gameplay: whatever moved the numbers stayed.

Why it ended

The Inclusion internship started in March 2026, with two hours of public transport each way. I was not home until late, and then had to produce content.

I stopped rather than let both suffer. I will not restart it: rebuilding a scattered audience costs more than I am willing to spend, and I do not want this as a full-time job. The income is too uncertain compared with a salary.
